I can relate!
I have been a member of lots of direct sales companies. I have bought the kit, scheduled the parties, dropped catalogs off at my medical spa and handed them out to my neighbors. I have spent many hours brainstorming about how to come up with new ideas to help my business grow. I was not successful.
This is information about what I have done that works, the things I wish I knew 10 years ago, and the things I know now. I hope together we can take your business to the next level.
First of all, I am not going to discuss companies I have sold for by name. My goal is not to bash any certain company , however I have thought perhaps I wasn’t successful because of their design.
So lets discuss this first. Something you want to avoid ( I know it’s hard especially in smaller communities or close groups of friends ), is the temptation to buy in just because everyone else is selling it. I understand the urge to join, but something you need to consider , just because everyone is selling it doesn’t mean you are going to succeed. In fact, your chances probably decrease because of how saturated the company is. A company that has over 1 million reps is going to be difficult to find customers that need to buy your product. Chances are, most of the people you approach are already buying products from someone else. The company may be making lots of money, but you probably wont.
The company is making tons of money off a million reps that are able to get one or two people to buy something. When you calculate the commission against the hours and energy involved, the rep has made less than minimum wage! A lot of the reps for these companies are purchasing products themselves in order to stay active or to move up the color grid. They are ” buying their way to the top”. This is the opposite of why you chose to be your own boss. You became your own boss and started your own business to make money not lose money. You started this journey to gain financial freedom and a better quality of life. Not to be a slave to someone and the worse part you have paid them to be their slave!
What to look for in a company is not how popular they are or how many reps they have. The company to chose it one that will take a little more work to get customers involved. They may be on a slow and steady rise but they will have a product you can’t live without. They will have a design that is set up to help you succeed. You will fall in love with being one of the only few people posting about your new business on social media. You will have fun coming up with successful idea’s to grow you business. You will have a solid up line and other successful individuals that will help you come up with ways to get your product on the market. They will drive you towards success.
A tool that a lot of direct sales reps need to use is social media. The three I use most are Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. I also use Pintrest.
My biggest suggestion is this, learn to be a problem solver. If you can offer a solution to a problem then you will make a lot of money, grow your team and find the freedom you have been working your behind off for! Be creative. You may be looking at your product and be thinking ” How does jewelry solve a problem?” Let me throw out some suggestions. Think about the price and your target market. Is it affordable? If yes start a blog about ” How to frost yourself with less than $20 “. If the Jewelry is on the higher end of your target market then start a blog on ” How to look classy while wearing your favorite jeans”. Have fun with it and write, post, write, post. Make sure you are posting everyday on at least three social media sites.
Don’t get trapped using the internet only! The internet is an amazing way to reach out to millions of people, however, it is extremely important to plan parties to make sure you are engaging in the personal one on one sales that will help your customer really feel connected to you. Build a personal relationship with your customers. Invite them to coffee, send them ” Thinking of you ” cards in the mail. Jot down important things to remember about your customer. When their birthday is. Make note of any special event or occasion they have coming up. Reach out to them before their important event and give a suggestion about how your product can help with their event. However you go about it, be sure they know how important they are to you.
I am so happy to share this information with you and I am excited to hear about your success! Please be sure to comment and let me know how your business is coming along. I am excited to get to know you and to hear about your success.
